
The 2025 Pork Carcass Competition, an annual initiative by the South African Pork Producers’ Organisation (SAPPO) in partnership with the South African Meat Industry Company (SAMIC), has been launched. This competition aims to:
✔ encourage the production of high-quality pork that meets market demands;
✔ demonstrate the benefits of the pork classification system to producers; and
✔ show how desirable carcass traits can be identified in live animals.
Entries open: 1 April–30 May 2025
Participation is free of charge for producers at the classified abattoirs across all nine provinces.
Eligible weight categories:
Porkers: 20 kg to 55 kg
Cutters to light baconers: 56 kg to 80 kg
Heavy baconers: 81 kg to 110 kg
