SAMIC is assigned by the Department of Agriculture to audit quality indication (QI) marks and Karoo lamb inspections at farms, abattoirs, and retailers (GI inspections) on their behalf. The two defining characteristics of QI marks are their uniqueness compared to the norm, and their traceability.
