SAMIC recently supported the !Kheis Farmers Association (KFA) Emerging Carcass Competition, held as part of their anniversary celebrations on 13 June 2026. Farmers from Boegoeberg, Groblershoop, Wegdraai, Topline, and Grootdrink each entered their best lamb for evaluation, creating a valuable platform for learning and skills development.
During the event, SAMIC auditor Patrick Neels presented practical guidance on carcass evaluation, explaining what to look for, how scoring works, and how classification standards impact market value. Farmers also benefited from hands-on demonstrations using sheep heads to learn how to determine age through dentition, alongside discussions on meat classification.
The aim of the initiative was to bring essential knowledge on carcass quality and age classification directly to producers, helping them improve decision-making and market readiness.
KFA expressed their appreciation for SAMIC’s contribution, noting that the insights shared were both informative and impactful for their members. SAMIC remains committed to supporting emerging farmers through training, knowledge sharing and industry collaboration.
